A single mother of four was fired yesterday for giving a single timbit to the crying child of a regular customer. The day after the incident when the manager had reviewed security tapes( in itself a strange thing) Ms. Lilliman was met by 3 managers and told she was being fired for theft. THEFT!!
Ms Lillman has been hired on by another Tim Horton’s as she didn’t feel comfortable returning to that store. No wonder. As if it isn’t hard enough to have a minimum wage job dealing with the public all day.
Tim Horton’s to their credit has said this was an inappropriate reaction and is currently writing definitive policy about timbit give-a-aways. They might want to consider firing the manager while they are at.

Is there anything more useless than a business degree? I mean, beyond grasping the concept that the goal is to sell something for more than it cost to put on offer, what do they study?
Guess in this case the faceless top-down corporate managerial types figured it would be “profitable” to impose policies to decree that any underpaid employee that gifted a 16 cent timbit to a wee one must be punished harshly.
Looks good on them that it’s going to cost much more than that to “fix” the public relations fiasco.
However, the fact that a poorly paid worker can be subject to such draconian employment “policies” that go against most people’s default nature to share at least a little is very disheartening.

My gut reaction when I read that news item is that her manager was a card-carrying anti-choice neocon. Because to me, that just fits the pattern of small-minded meanness typical of those who venerate the fetus but hate the reality of crying babies. Especially those who get a free Timbit.
