Speak your mind even if your voice shakes

Day 12 (Dec. 6th Action)

12/04/2006 by Debra

We have seen this government cut 5 million dollars from the budget of Status of Women.

End funding for lobbying, research and advocacy on women’s issues.

Drop the word equality and drop the word political from

“the full participation of women in the economic, social, cultural and political life of the country”

Most of these changes to take place April 1st.

How appropriate a date when we have a fool in charge.

In case you were wondering where they might go from there, wonder no longer.

According to an article from Canadian Press, they are going to the Sally Ann.

Oda insists her government will instead fund organizations and programs she says more directly affect women. Those could include the YWCA and the Salvation Army,

Like millions of budget strapped Canadians before them the Conservatives have decided that perhaps they can find a used, slightly out of date item at the Sally Ann shine it up and recycle it.

Now when this comes to an article of clothing or a item of furniture this is fine, when it comes to government policy it is time someone put their arm around Stevie’s shoulder and said quietly into his ear; WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING!

If you would prefer government that does not confuse the issue of church and state, a government that recognizes women’s equality, a government that recognizes the necessity women’s involvement in politics and a government that does not seek to send women to the Sally Ann; get involved!

Write letters, start petitions, get involved in your local riding association, vote
