Freaky Fetishers

07/07/2008 by Debra

The dictionary defines fetish as; An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation. Of course it also defines it as; Something, such as a material object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification, but lets not go there.

The recent announcement of Dr. Morgantaler receiving an Order of Canada has brought out the fetus fetishers in full force. Sticky, sappy odes to the unborn and attacks on those who *gasp, shriek, swoon* actually see sex as a normal part of life. Babies are punishment for your sins sweet sexy mama er…. evil harlot. [quick aside; now are they adorable miracles from god, or punishments for sex? Make up your minds!]

At a recent Jesus Freak festival fetishers were provided with merchandise to help make them visible to other fetishers such as t-shirts with the ever popular holocaust message “and a baby suit proclaiming “Former Embryo.”” Now we are going to assume that the baby suit was for a baby, but one can never be sure. And it is perhaps a mark of the failure of abstinence education that they must point out that the ‘person’ in the stroller who no longer counts for much, was once an all powerful fetus.

Today in the Calgary Herald, Selina Renfrow writes about her CHOICE to carry her pregnancy to term. Never once recognizing the irony in her words.

At the age of 20 I was pregnant, single and living at home. It took me two months to decide what I was going to do; two months to choose a path for my life.
I chose to be a mother.

Pregnant woman in the shadows (BW image)Image via WikipediaMs. Renfrow speaks to her religious beliefs and how they guided her decision and I am happy that she had the choice in that decision. I am happy that there are not pregnancy police deciding whether or not she can have a baby. I am happy that women’s rights advocates have made society kinder to single moms. I am happy that she didn’t lose her job, family and reputation by having this child out of wedlock.

Now if only Ms Renfrow and others of her persuasion would recognize that others have the right to their choices as well. The woman pregnant from rape or incest, the teen pregnant because she hoped that sex would mean love, the single career woman like herself who is unprepared and unwilling to take on the responsibility of a child, the mother who already has children and cannot afford one more, perhaps financially perhaps emotionally, the woman with a medical condition for whom a pregnancy may mean a devastating result to her health, as Ms. Renfrow points out birth control can fail does that mean that one is fated to pregnancy regardless of impact?

Choice it’s what separates us from fascism, political or reproductive.

Won’t Somebody Please Terrorize the Children?!

07/03/2008 by Debra

We are all familiar by now with the big trucks big anti abortion horror show that the fetus fetishers like to drive around. Calgary version here WARNING:Graphic Propaganda

You might think that those who are so concerned that every egg be born would be just as concerned with those eggs once they have fully developed taken a breath and become “a person”. Well think again my friend. Here is a nice little quote from one such egg fancier;

Ted Mathis has heard from many parents who would be appalled if their children saw this truck. And indeed it would be traumatizing.

My advice to those parents? Keep your children at home. Do not let them out doors. Do not own a TV or a computer with the internet. Do not listen to the radio and especially remember to never send your children to a public school, for they will see and hear many more gruesome things if you do.

Can’t you feel the compassion? What…well now that you mention it, neither can I.

Image via WikipediaIn California one such truck targeted a middle school. Just as they would for any other type of pornography the principal and school staff phoned police who ordered the truck away from the school.

The Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform was having none of that, however, and took the case to court. And amazingly won the right to terrorize children.

A federal appeals court ruled today that authorities violated the rights of members of an anti-abortion group by ordering them to stop driving a truck displaying large, graphic images of aborted fetuses around a California middle school.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, in San Francisco, ruled unanimously in Center for Bio-Ethical Reform v. Los Angeles County Sheriff Department that a California statute that bars disruption on or near school grounds could not be applied under the First Amendment to efforts by the anti-abortion group to drive its truck around Dodson Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

British-Romanian Benefactor ensures 11 year old Receives Abortion

06/26/2008 by Debra

Rape is a life altering experience. Perhaps all the more so when you are 11, find yourself pregnant and are subjected to laws which seek to further impact your body without your consent.

So it was for a Romanian girl raped by her uncle and denied an abortion under Romania’s strict reproductive laws. The same sorts of laws the anti-choice crowd here would like to impose on Canadian women. Anti-choice groups in Romania have sought to impede the girls access to an abortion even though the church has stated that this was an unusual case and the decision was best left to the family. In the words of her mother. “”Panel after panel, meeting after meeting. In the meantime, my poor girl gets more and more terrified.”

Fortunately for the girl involved a “Romanian woman in Britain who has come to her rescue.” She will be flying to Britain shortly to have the pregnancy terminated. Now perhaps the family can get on with the process of healing.

Abortion – Terrorism Link?

06/25/2008 by Debra

prise_de_la_bastilleAccording to an article in the Peterborough Examiner Janine Krieber “an expert on international relations and military strategy” (and also wife of Opposition Leader Stephen Dion) stated that the abortion issue is “the next potential domestic terrorism threat”.

Some are spinning this as meaning that pro-choice groups are potential domestic terrorists even though the clinic bombings, doctor shootings and raving lunatic lineups spitting at women and shoving gory pictures in children’s faces has all come from the anti-choice side.

Your body Your choice?

06/22/2008 by Debra

Dateline Romania: 11 year old girl raped by her uncle is refused an abortion.
Now she not only must suffer the indignity committed upon her young body by a predator, she is further raped by the system which is forcing her to carry the pregnancy to term.

No doubt according to some she just should have said no and the pregnancy would never have occurred. To some it will be perfectly palatable that this young girl be subjected to nine months of sharing nutrition that she herself needs at this time in her life. Nine months of wonder and fear as to what birth will be like. This scares adult women who have made the choice to have a baby. She will in all likelihood have to have a surgical delivery as her pelvis is underdeveloped and vaginal delivery would be difficult if not impossible.

Even those who have made the choice to carry a pregnancy to term are not safe from interference in their reproductive choices.

The AMA is advocating that women only be allowed to choose a hospital setting for their delivery

AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION HOUSE OF DELEGATES

Resolution: 205
(A-08)

Introduced by: American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

Subject: Home Deliveries

Referred to: Reference Committee B
(Craig W. Anderson, MD, Chair)

Whereas, Twenty-one states currently license midwives to attend home births, all using the certified professional midwife (CPM) credential (CPM or “lay” midwives), not the certified midwives (CM) credential which both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) recognize ; and

Whereas, There has been much attention in the media by celebrities having home deliveries, with recent Today Show headings such as “Ricki Lake takes on baby birthing industry: Actress and former talk show host shares her at-home delivery in new film” ; and

Whereas, An apparently uncomplicated pregnancy or delivery can quickly become very complicated in the setting of maternal hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, eclampsia or other obstetric emergencies, necessitating the need for rigorous standards, appropriate oversight of obstetric providers, and the availability of emergency care, for the health of both the mother and the baby during a delivery; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association support the recent American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) statement that “the safest setting for labor, delivery, and the immediate post-partum period is in the hospital, or a birthing center within a hospital complex, that meets standards jointly outlined by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and ACOG, or in a freestanding birthing center that meets the standards of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, The Joint Commission, or the American Association of Birth Centers” (New HOD Policy); and be it further

RESOLVED, That our AMA develop model legislation in support of the concept that the safest setting for labor, delivery, and the immediate post-partum period is in the hospital, or a birthing center within a hospital complex, that meets standards jointly outlined by the AAP and ACOG, or in a freestanding birthing center that meets the standards of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, The Joint Commission, or the American Association of Birth Centers.” (Directive to Take Action)

Fiscal Note: Implement accordingly at estimated staff cost of $1,929.

New landmark study shows that
Planned Home Births Are Safe
The largest study of home births attended by Certified Professional Midwives, as published in
the British Medical Journal, has found that home birth is safe for low risk women and
involves far fewer interventions than similar births in hospitals.
Safe & Healthy Outcomes
• Results are consistent with most studies of planned home births and low risk hospital births
• Zero maternal deaths
• Intrapartum and neonatal mortality: 2.0 per 1000 intended home births (only 1.7 per 1000 intended
home births when planned breech and twin births are excluded)
• Immediate neonatal concerns resulted in just 2.4% of newborns being placed in neonatal intensive
care
• At six weeks well over 90% of mothers were still breastfeeding their babies
Low Rates of Medical Intervention
• Much lower rates of interventions for intended home births compared to low risk hospital births:
Planned home birth Hospital birth
Induction of labor (only with oxytocin or prostaglandins) 2.1% * 21.0%
Stimulation of labor (only with oxytocin) 2.7% * 18.9%
Electronic fetal monitoring 9.6% 84.3%
Episiotomy 2.1% 33.0%
Vacuum Extraction 0.6% 5.5%
Cesarean Section 3.7% 19.0%
* These numbers differ from the BMJ article where data for CPMs included forms of induction and stimulation
only used by midwives and not comparable to hospital births.
Satisfied Mothers
• Only 1.7% of the mothers said they would choose a different type of caregiver for a future pregnancy
Few Transfers to Hospital Care
• Only 12.1% transferred to hospital intrapartum or postpartum
• Five out of six transfers were before delivery, most for failure to progress, pain relief or exhaustion
• Midwife considered transfer urgent in only 3.4% of intended home births
High Credibility
• Included all home births involving Certified Professional Midwives in the year 2000
• 5,418 women in U.S. and Canada who intended to give birth at home as of the start of labor
• Prospective – every planned home birth was registered in the study prior to labor and delivery
“Outcomes of planned home births with certified professional midwives: large prospective study in North America.”

Lisa J. Patton and her newborn LaVergerray

And of course there is also the “a fertilized egg is a person with full legal rights supporters”. Will women who have miscarriages now be subjected to court dates to prove they didn’t in fact murder the legally recognized person in their womb? Is stillbirth manslaughter? If you know you have difficulty carrying a pregnancy to term yet keep trying are you a serial murderer? If you have an illness or accident and what would save you may kill the “person with full legal rights and status” in your womb, who’s rights prevail? Will there be courts in hospitals to determine if pregnant women can receive treatment? Will doctors even want to treat pregnant women when they could be held accountable for murder should any treatment result in death or injury to the fetus womb person with full legal rights and status?

These are not rhetorical questions. They need to be considered carefully and most especially by those who do see children in their future.

American Life League quashes multi-family affordable housing project

06/04/2008 by Debra

Image via WikipediaPlanned Parenthood in Florida was required to prove the presence of multi-family housing in order to get zoning permits. In an effort to meet the requirements and be good American citizens they contacted Habitat for Humanity and offered to sell them the land for 10 dollars. Habitat agreed and a deal was struck.

Now most people would think that affordable housing for Floridian families was a good thing. Not so the American Life League. No the ALL feels that once out of the womb you’re pretty much on your own.

And so they started their hate campaign and encouraged other vagina police to put an end to this project forthwith. Known for their creative use of polls one can just imagine the number of repeat phone calls, letters, emails etc that HH received. Unfortunately the Sarasota Habitat for Humanity saw caving to religious extremists as more important than providing housing for needy families.

In his email touting this “victory” as a good thing, Michael Hichborn says of ALL

It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.

From the moment of creation, eh? So we can look forward then to enormous prayer protests against their god for allowing all those miscarriages and therefore being the largest abortion provider of all.

Natural death? Again we will look forward to seeing the ALL out protesting the war, the NRA, the neonatal units trying to keep extreme preemies alive, and no doubt they will support anyone who finds themselves in the same situation as Terri Schiavo’s husband. All those tubes and breathing devices are certainly not natural.

Of course that will not happen. What Michael meant to say was that the American Life League is committed to policing women’s vaginas and forcing pregnancy and supporting rights for all life..for all people.. for eggs and fetuses.

Hold your heads proud no-lifers and don’t even think of all the families who lost out on housing. Hell if they wanted housing they should have stayed in the womb, then ALL would give a shit.
