Lapierre resigns

01/11/2007 by Debra

Lapierre has announced he will be leaving by months end.

Leaving the NDP in the unenviable position of deciding the fate of the Tory party.

Unenviable because no matter how Layton plays it, the NDP will have their feet held to the fire for either causing an election or not causing it.

It will be interesting to see how Harper plays this.

and the winner is…..

01/11/2007 by Debra

I’ve never been much for awards of any type. They seem more like popularity contests than indicative of anything in particular.

Some of the best and most informative posts I’ve read come from very small almost anonymous blogs.

That being said I thought I’d add my two cents to the continuing round of blog awards. [Read more…] about and the winner is…..

Justin Trudeau set to run; Dion unimpressed

01/09/2007 by Debra

Though he supported Dion he doesn’t seem to be getting any support in return.

CTV story

Justin Trudeau is set to enter federal politics and seek a seat in the Montreal riding of Outremont, according to a report.

Pierre Trudeau’s eldest son joined the Liberal riding association in the relatively safe riding of Outremont about two months ago, Montreal’s La Presse newspaper reported.

But it appears some Liberals are opposed to the idea of seeing the former prime minister’s son run for the seat, the newspaper added.

La Presse reports that Liberal leader Stephane Dion was planning on reserving the riding for high-profile candidates who could help the rebuild the party’s support in Quebec.

You can’t handle the truth

01/09/2007 by Debra

That is the message that the Washington Post has for it’s readers.

The images are contained in thousands of pages of NCIS investigative documents obtained by The Washington Post. Post editors decided that most of the images are too graphic to publish…

The descriptions of some of the photos do indeed sound brutal. A brutality the people in the pictures had no choice to avoid.

The people of America have a right, indeed they have a duty, to see what transpires in their name. It is all too easy to think of war in the abstract when you do not hear the planes flying overhead. Do not feel the earth shake and the air cloud as your neighbours die. Do not wonder where you will get food and water for you family or if indeed any of you will live to need it.

Photos help to pierce through that cloud of complacency.

Five Hundred Dollars

01/09/2007 by Debra

Steve Horner, a corporate speaker and Peter Mackay wannabe, has successfully ended Ladies Night at Proof.

Some divorced men might appreciate Ladies Night as a chance to meet new women, establish friendships, relationships..hell maybe even get laid.

But not Mr. Horner, when he hears about Ladies Night he hears discrimination.

What he really means is his wife left him seven years ago, and instead of doing some self reflection and actually moving on with his life, he has decided to go Dr. Evil on Feminism.

Horner, who says he turned against feminism when his wife left him seven years ago, plans to expand his crusade.

“This is now a violation of law. I will now make it a point to visit as many ladies nights as I can every week. I’ll have my rights violated, then I’ll sue them in county court and collect my $500,” he said.

Geez I thought when you went somewhere to purposely get your rights violated it cost you money.
