Privatize Canada Post

02/13/2007 by Debra

The non-partisan (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) C.D. Howe Institute has come up with a report–pdf– calling for the privatization of Canada Post.

It is well worth the 22 pages of quick reading.

I’ll touch on a few of the gems to be found. [Read more…] about Privatize Canada Post

Landowner seeks Tory nomination.

02/12/2007 by Debra

There is an article in the Star by Ian Urquhart. In it he discusses Randy Hillier head of the Ontario Landowners Association.

If you don’t live in a rural area you have likely had the good fortune to have never heard of this person. Some of us are not so lucky.

Believe me Mr. Hillier means landowners in every conceivable sense of the word. He believes he has the right to do whatever he wants on his land.

So if he pours toxics all over his land and it pollutes your well that is not his problem.

The ultimate believer in individualism. But you can read his own words.

“Complacent (sic), Ignorance, and Apathy (CIA).” He said the disease “generally attacks individuals living in dense urban settings” and added:

“Once infected, there is no known cure. The patient becomes addicted to watching the CBC, desires social housing, seeks out either welfare or bureaucratic employment, and has a strong preference for public transportation. Complete dependence upon government leading to eventual death is inevitable.”

It seems Hillier has sought out the Conservatives and plans to run in the next provincial election.Though John Tory is hedging his bets by saying that nothing is in any way official yet.

The landowners are also strongly involved with the de-amalgamation efforts. I know in our area these people are relentless. Even though amalgamation happened 5 or more years ago, it is still on their front burner.

They represent every negative quality of Tories.

Support for Hilliers’ nomination is support for drastic cuts to all social programs, to environmental programs and legislation, cuts to public housing and transportation, and ulitmately a return to a Landowners system of government.

A situation to keep an eye on.

Are Tits breasts?

02/10/2007 by Debra

stripclubThe Breast Cancer Society of Canada doesn’t seem to think so.

BCSC turned down a donation of funds raised at a strip club event so as not to offend certain other donors.

How nice.

I wonder who else they won’t accept donations from?

Perhaps they have access to studies showing that strippers aren’t women. That they aren’t subject to the same chance of breast cancer as the rest of us.

They claim that they turned the money down because its major donors did not support a connection to exotic dancers.

Did the money have a money shot on it? What the hell?

I propose we send letters to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada which they can read at their leisure and then pass on to their major donors.

Included in this letter would be the definition of charity

To wit;
1. Provision of help or relief to the poor; almsgiving.
2. Something given to help the needy; alms.
3. An institution, organization, or fund established to help the needy.
4. Benevolence or generosity toward others or toward humanity.
5. Indulgence or forbearance in judging others.

And if that is too subtle maybe someone would take it upon themselves to mail a stripper pole or facsimile of with explicit instructions of where to place it.

Head of Cartoon Network Resigns

02/10/2007 by Debra

Obviously someone had to take the fall.

In my estimation it should have been the authorities who treated a bunch of light brights like a terrorist thread.

It was they who wasted thousands or millions of dollars (depending on news story) to “take care” of a non event.

The excuse of THE POST 9/11 WORLD is getting more tired that Ross’s “We were on a break” refrain.

Apparently before Sept. 11 nothing bad ever happened to anyone anywhere in the world.

Now all is to be feared. How do you know that Tickle Me Elmo™ isn’t actually an al qaeda spy? Who laughs like that anyway?

The constant terrorist fear mongering is like listening to a hypochondriac friend. Enough already.

Yes there are terrorists, have been for quite some time. All over the world. None to date have been known to have an affinity for either cartoons, light brights or situations that call attention to what they are planning to do.

It is wonderful they found someone to take the fall. It is just too bad they got the wrong person.

Guilty of manslaughter in mothers death

02/08/2007 by Debra

Star Story

A judge has broken new legal ground by ruling that a man who admitted to slapping and neglecting his frail elderly mother, allowing her to lie in squalor for days, is guilty of manslaughter in her death.

It is believed to be the first time in Canada that elder abuse has been declared an indirect cause of manslaughter.

Donald Noseworthy allowed his 78-year-old mother, Mary, stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, to lie “in filth and squalor and with deplorable hygiene” in the east Toronto bungalow they shared, Superior Court Justice Edward Then said yesterday.

snip

Although his mother lay on her back on her bedroom floor, not eating and hardly drinking in her final four days, he admitted he did not call 911 for fear he would be charged for the slaps and kicks he had inflicted on her during the previous nine months.

“I was just hoping that maybe she – her face would get better and even though it wasn’t and you know I’d, I’d do it again,” he told Toronto police homicide detectives Joel Kulmatycki and Peter Code.

Another police officer testified that Noseworthy admitted he “bitch-slapped her” when she didn’t respond to his questions.

The list of injuries and indignities to Mary Noseworthy is heartbreaking.

As if Alzheimer’s wasn’t a distressing enough way to die, imagine having to go through this kind of abuse at a time when you are most vulnerable.

His lawyer wants time served 36 months (18 months times 2 for pretrial custody)

Though truthfully no amount of time served could restore her dignity nor give her back those years, it doesn’t seem like enough.

Calgary women sent to Montana to deliver

02/08/2007 by Debra

A.R. Media in Calgary reports;

Calgary-The streets are full of protesters upset that pregnant Calgarians are being sent to Montana to deliver their babies.

Alice McMommy head of R.E.A.L. women in Calgary issued this statement.

“How are we supposed to recruit members for FPC* when the government is making it look like having a baby might be difficult? After all we’ve done to support them.”

Cathy Lick opined,”I told my priest how the government was abusing mothers. He told me to treat them nicely and maybe they would stop. So I am going to the legislature with a cake today.”

The Right to Life groups have rallied around these women in an amazing way.

The situaton can best be summed up in the words of Femi Nist, “It is said a pregnant Mary travelled on a donkey, our pregnant women travel because of ass too.”
