Politics

You want it when?

02/20/2007 by Debra

Unfamiliar it seems with reality, Canada’s New Government™ has once again proven their incompetence.

Under questioning by NDP MP Irene Mathyssen, Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development finally admitted yesterday that none of the 70 million dollars earmarked for soup kitchens and shelters will be spent until or after April 1st.

Naturally in Canada in winter shelter is not a priority concern. People can do without food.

Harpers’ government has placed quite an emphasis on April 1st.

We can only hope that on that day we will learn this government has been nothing more than the practical joke it appears to be .

Privatize Canada Post

02/13/2007 by Debra

The non-partisan (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) C.D. Howe Institute has come up with a report–pdf– calling for the privatization of Canada Post.

It is well worth the 22 pages of quick reading.

I’ll touch on a few of the gems to be found. [Read more…] about Privatize Canada Post

Landowner seeks Tory nomination.

02/12/2007 by Debra

There is an article in the Star by Ian Urquhart. In it he discusses Randy Hillier head of the Ontario Landowners Association.

If you don’t live in a rural area you have likely had the good fortune to have never heard of this person. Some of us are not so lucky.

Believe me Mr. Hillier means landowners in every conceivable sense of the word. He believes he has the right to do whatever he wants on his land.

So if he pours toxics all over his land and it pollutes your well that is not his problem.

The ultimate believer in individualism. But you can read his own words.

“Complacent (sic), Ignorance, and Apathy (CIA).” He said the disease “generally attacks individuals living in dense urban settings” and added:

“Once infected, there is no known cure. The patient becomes addicted to watching the CBC, desires social housing, seeks out either welfare or bureaucratic employment, and has a strong preference for public transportation. Complete dependence upon government leading to eventual death is inevitable.”

It seems Hillier has sought out the Conservatives and plans to run in the next provincial election.Though John Tory is hedging his bets by saying that nothing is in any way official yet.

The landowners are also strongly involved with the de-amalgamation efforts. I know in our area these people are relentless. Even though amalgamation happened 5 or more years ago, it is still on their front burner.

They represent every negative quality of Tories.

Support for Hilliers’ nomination is support for drastic cuts to all social programs, to environmental programs and legislation, cuts to public housing and transportation, and ulitmately a return to a Landowners system of government.

A situation to keep an eye on.

Head of Cartoon Network Resigns

02/10/2007 by Debra

Obviously someone had to take the fall.

In my estimation it should have been the authorities who treated a bunch of light brights like a terrorist thread.

It was they who wasted thousands or millions of dollars (depending on news story) to “take care” of a non event.

The excuse of THE POST 9/11 WORLD is getting more tired that Ross’s “We were on a break” refrain.

Apparently before Sept. 11 nothing bad ever happened to anyone anywhere in the world.

Now all is to be feared. How do you know that Tickle Me Elmo™ isn’t actually an al qaeda spy? Who laughs like that anyway?

The constant terrorist fear mongering is like listening to a hypochondriac friend. Enough already.

Yes there are terrorists, have been for quite some time. All over the world. None to date have been known to have an affinity for either cartoons, light brights or situations that call attention to what they are planning to do.

It is wonderful they found someone to take the fall. It is just too bad they got the wrong person.

Boys willingly submitted to rape according to O’Reilly

02/07/2007 by Debra

How can you willing submit to rape?

Well only a mind as complex as Billies can answer that.

He has been asked to be a key note speaker at a missing and exploited children’s group fund raiser.

As he is exploiting these boys regularly on his show I suppose he is a natural choice. That is if you are trying to understand the mind of someone who exploits children.

Turner Joins Liberals

02/06/2007 by Debra

Reports from all over today about Garth joining the green Dions.

Many thought Turner would have encamped with E. May’s Greens.

However, in an exclusive interview with A.R. Media Mr. Turner had this to say;

I support the Green Party, some enviromentalists will do anything so better the Green Party than Greenpeace.

But I have talked people out of joining the Green Party and can’t see anything that would induce/reduce me to joining them.

I’d like to see tax incentives and counselling to help prevent more people from joining the Green Party.

I hope people will realize that there are radicals on either side not willing to listen to each other.
Making this a difficult and nuanced decision.

To quote St. Thomas Aquinas, “Who knows when political life begins?”
